**Do I have to pay tribal taxes if I worked on a reservation?

I worked at a tribal school, on a native american reservation, but I am not native. I had both federal income tax and tribal tax taken out of my paychecks. At some point, I heard that I could get the tribal tax back, since I'm not native, and get the federal tax back because I was working on a reservation. Sounds too good to be true, but if it is I'd like to know how. Do you know how this kind of thing works? Or know where I can find out more?

a separate nation has the right to tax. although american land adminstered by BIA many reservations are controlled by indian nations. and yes there are many tax benifits to working on a reservation (for some jobs).

Oh gosh. The native americans refused to pay their taxes, and look at what it did to them. They've been handled with prejudice. Those tax dollars provide funding to services and protections--they must really like you.

It kind of makes sense that if you were working in "their" country, you'd have to pay their taxes. If it were me, I think I'd let them keep the taxes and not even pursue it... many, if not most of the reserations are so deep in poverty already. If my taxes helped their community, more power to 'em.
