They perform a Lithotripsy which is basically an ultrasonic wave that is directed towards the kidney area and it breaks the stone down into small pieces which usually then can be passed normally. Sometimes they are too big and surgery is required to remove the stone, which can lead to a possible 2-3 days hospital stay. It really depends on how big it is & if it's deeply impeded in your opening or in the uretha tube, and what kind of damage it has done to your kidney. These are painful as heck and no doubt something I would never wish even on my worst enemy. You can prevent most kidney stones usually by drinking 8 -10 8oz glasses of water a day (which is what most doctors recommend) and I was told to drink cranberry juice at least once a week and also drink 4-5 glasses of water a day and this would help my kidneys from developing more stones. So far so good and I don't plan on it happening again.

i had 21 kidney stones when i was only 3 (20 years ago)!
i was in Germany at the time... i had a long 9 hour sergury and they removed 20 of them... i think i stayed in the hospital for 2 weeks...

but things have changed alot since then,... they have laser sergury so they dont even need to open the kidney... it must be much easier and faster...

wish you or your patient luck and health :)

it can be done by Lithotripsy which is ultrasonic waves basically blasting the stone to pieces in the kidney and then the body passing the bits out through the ureter in the urine. Depending on stone size can be done as an out patient, same day or a one to two day stay may be required.

I couldn't just sit around and do nothing like my doctors suggested.

They didn't want me to do anything or to take herbs or herbal remedies, but I had to try something - they just wanted me to do dialysis!

This program allowed me to take control of my health. I went from Stage 4 to Stage 3 kidney disease.

It was easy to do and my BUN, creatinine and anemia are all in better ranges.

Usually they would try to break it up with an ultrasound machine and remove it with a claw-like device . I did it as an outpatient surgery 3 times
