Unfortunately you are in the same boat as millions of other Americans including myself. What little help there is is heavily used as there is far more help needed than available. The first place to talk to is your old doctor, he knows you and your need and may work with you if he can and has enough heart to do so.

He will also know of any local clinics, etc. You can bet that this is not the first time he has had a patient lose insurance. A letter to your Democratic Congressman and Senators wouldn't hurt either, as that is just the story that will help them do something

Who Can Get Medi-Cal?

People in many different situations qualify for Medi-Cal. They are listed below. If you are not in one of these groups, call your county social service agency to determine if you qualify for a county-operated medical assistance program.

You may automatically be eligible for Medi-Cal if you receive cash assistance under one of the following programs:

SSI/SSP (Supplemental Security Income/State Supplemental Program)
CalWORKs (California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids). Previously called Aid to Families with Dependent Children (AFDC).
Refugee Assistance
Foster Care or Adoption Assistance Program.
Even if you don’t receive cash assistance, you may be eligible for Medi-Cal if you are one of the following:

65 or older
Blind
Disabled
Under 21
Pregnant
Diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer
In a skilled nursing or intermediate care facility.
Refugee status during a limited period of eligibility. Adult refugees may or may not be eligible depending upon how long they have been in the U.S.
Parent or caretaker relative of a child under 21 and
The child’s parent is deceased or doesn’t live with the child, or
The child’s parent is incapacitated, or
The child’s parent who is the primary wage earner is unemployed or underemployed.

Try this web site for a federal grant. There just may be something in there.

http://www.grants.gov/help/general_faqs.jsp

They do have a lot of money available, even if you want to start a business at home. You can always try. But you have to do a search through it to find what you're looking for. Hope this helps. :>) I know how it feels to be out of work and -0-$$, so I truly can sympatize with you. Good Luck!

Try Medicaid. The child can't be denied. If you are not working either maybe you should look into AFDC (now called CalWORKS) to help out and food stamps too.

how about looking into a temporary plan. many of these plans cover for 6 months and are renewable once or twice and cost as little as $30 per month. pretty good insurance against catastrophies.

Sorry, I do not have an answer. However, I do have a question for you to ponder on " Why do you say that the government is not "willing" to help you ?"
