I know, how that feels, because I used to get those, but not any longer. Gargle with salt water several times a day. Drink warm tea, get lots of rest and drink lots of fruit juices. You need to boost your immune system.

If your condition is not better or is worse after 48 hours of taking antibiotics, you may need a different medicaiton. Also, you may benefit from a short course of steroids to decrease the swelling in your throat. You should return to your regular doctor or go to an urgent care center (if your doctor's office is closed) to get a new prescription if this is the case.

Recurrent tonsillitis is, unfortunately, something that gets worse with time. If you are having frequent episodes, you should get a tonsillectomy before you have a bigger problem, like a peritonsillar abscess.

The tonsils are not essential and the surgery is easy to do. You will have a sore throat for at least a week afterward, but most people with recurrent tonsillitis tolerate the sore throat really well.

The major risk of tonsillectomy is bleeding during the two weeks after surgery. A raw surface is left behind in the surgery and it takes that long for it to heal. The way to avoid bleeds is by diet and avoiding strenuous exercise. About 2-4% of patients who undergo tonsillectomy will bleed afterward.

Hi there, you poor thing, tonsillitis is just no fun at all :(
Unfortunately, it looks as though you may get this dreaded condition each time you get a bug in your system. The best thing to do is get a referral to an ENT specialist who can look at your overall history and give you the option of having surgery to remove the tonsils. Especially if it makes you so unwell for a period of time each year.
Having a bacterial infection so close to all your sinuses not to mention your brain can cause negative effects long term.
Also, anti biotics taken regularly end up NOT being affective after a certain amount of time. Saying that...make sure you take the remainder of the anti's that you are now on, because stopping them mid course only keeps the bug around to fester again.
Drink as mych water as you can, so you wee clear urine, that way you are hydrated enough.
Try to drink juices, both vegetable and fruit ones, to keep up your nutrition status, and make sure you eat yogurt (with acidophilus and bifidus in it) beginning at the 3rd day before finishing the anti's, this restores the natural flora in your intestines that is being stripped away by the anti's. That way, you can beat the bug. If you dont like yogurt, take some acidophilus supplement from the health food store instead.'
Take regular analgesia, paracetamol/tylenol if you aren't allergic to them that is.
Make sure you do get to that ENT specialist though, your local GP cannot fix this problem now, not just with anti biotics.

Idid some nursing a long time ago & i had tonsillitis a bunch of times. At 21 I had my tonsils out & didn't have much trouble after that. Your antibiotics got rid of the pus pockets. the more tonsillits you have the more antibiotics you will need Talk to your doctor I'm not one
