Raging Bull - Scorsese's adaptation of Jake LaMotta's life gave the public a view into the boxing world inside as well as outside the ring. The fight scenes are filmed so as to increase the viewers experience of just how brutal fights were back then. "Ray?? Hey Ray?? You never stopped me Ray!!" AWESOME!!

I am a big fan of the Rocky films but I have to be honest, as the series progressed it began to become too "fantastic". It gave in my opinion, an unrealistic view of the fight game. One was the purest of the lot.

Million Dollar Baby - is a great film as well, but it couldn't slip past the winning combination of DeNiro/Peschi's acting and Scorsese's Directorial Mastery.

There's 2. Rocky and Raging Bull.

Both critically and commercially successful.

I'd say Rocky has had the greater 'pop culture' impact - this is evident from the number of people who find the theme instantly recognisable; that the steps up to the museum in Philadelphia have become more of an attraction than the museum to which they lead; and that the Rocky series (3 to be precise) gave us a phrase that is now part of common language, ie "eye of the tiger" meaniung killer instinct or desire to win.

I agree that Raging Bull and Ali were great movies, but the movies were more about the person rather than the sport itself. When I think of Ali, I simply think of the man - Ali. There has yet been a movie that I have seen that has truly been about the sport itself.
The only thing that comes close is Morgan Freeman's narration of the sport and fighters in the movie 'Million Dollar Baby'.
Seriously.

I would say that is a three way tie.

Raging Bull - ahead of its time.

ALI - great story of the greatest man to lace up a pair of gloves.

The Hurricane - can you imagine what Rueben Carter would have become had he not been imprisoned for a crime he did not commit?

"The Champ" with Wallace Berry (i think his name is) Noah Berry's (Rockford Files) dad. It's what 'Grocky' is based on.
