Most departments (in my area anyway) will let a single misdemeanor slide if the rest of your application is spotless. I was able to get a job with a police department with a misdemeanor on my record. Just be honest about it during the interview process. They have all the details about it, so they're not asking you about it to be informed, they're asking you to see if you lie to them about it. Good luck.

Do not let a DUI stop your career goals --as long as you have that issue completely resolved. You must also be completely willing and open to discuss that mistake. Be prepared to address the question in an interview with dignity --without embarassment-- and tell them what you learned and how you can incorporate that experience into your role as a law enforcement official.

Unfortunately, I've prosecuted a few cops for DUI as well as a few more prior to being hired (law enforcement program nearby). It may depend on where you interview, but generally, a DUI will not prohibit you from obtaining a law enforcement job unless you have problems which extend beyond that one mistake.

Good luck, best wishes.

How long ago was it? Technically, you could get hired with any department. It just comes down to the chief's final decision. That's too bad about the DUI. If it were smoking pot in college or something, you could just lie about that. A DUI on your record, however, that's a tough one.

have your record sponged it will take a lawyer a judge and some cash but it can be legally done and you can practically work for any police department but not at the federal level.
