I had my gall bladder removed after the birth of my son. I was told by my dr that many people live with gall stones with no problem or even knowledge that they have them, but if the gall bladder gets aggravated due to any number of reasons; pregnancy can be one, in my case a very active baby helping to move things around, or developing an infection like pancreatitis or liver disease, it is usually enough cause for removal. My understanding is that the gall bladder helps with the storage and distribution of your cholesterol, but apparently your body can live without it as long as you watch your diet, and more specifically your fat intake. Interestingly enough, you can STILL develop what they consider gall stones without a gall bladder. I guess they can form in other places in your body and cause mayhem there, too.

If you are saying that even after the removal you are still feeling pain, you should definitely consult with your dr. After I got my gall bladder removed we discovered a blockage in my bile duct that required another procedure, and I had also developed pancreatitis, which is where your pancreas is very inflamed. Your pancreas sits between the nerves in your back and your stomach, so I had horrible back pain and was vomiting alot. My situation was and is not uncommon. If you have any of these symptoms, or are even just not feeling great, I would check in with your dr. Once we finally got everything taken care of, the difference in how I felt was remarkable, and I realized immediately that the fact that I was feeling less than great after the initial gall bladder surgery was my cue that something still was not right. Good luck to you and hope this helps!

Gall bladders can have an attack at any time. Something as simple as eating ice cream can trigger a gall bladder attack. It's not pretty.
