This has to do with people's worldview. In Western society supersition has been thrown out the window in the past years by the domination of the modern worldview. However, in the very recent past a new worldview is begining to take over which is a post-modern worldview. This worldview is more acceptable of a spiritual reality or at least does not deny its exsistance. It accepts multiple points of view as perceptive truths.

In our country people are still very superstitious because they are lacking education. In our country people are ignorant and that is also one of the causes for people being superstitious. In my opinion only Education can overcome superstition. "Each one must teach one."

Superstition has been around much longer than science. It will be a long time before this goes away completely. It is a meme that has survived in most of the worlds population up to this day and will survive for many more generations. I think it is inevitable for it to go away eventually though. Let's at least hope it does!

Superstitions stem from a sense of insecurity, under confidence in one's own abilities and often when inexplicable things happen. There will always be superstitious people and it has nothing to do with modernity.

By asking that vile question you just got 80 years bad luck. Quick! get a spoonful of salt, throw it in your hair and shout exactly three times the following words real slow...,
"OHWAH TAFOO YAI YAM!"
Oh - and have to have a chicken feather dangling from each nostril and be in your underwear at midnight under a full moon.
It wont remove the bad luck, but man you sure would look funny.
