I live in Ohio...and it's been my experience that neither breed is really popular around here. I have two English Mastiff's I show and there's not much competition. There are slightly more of the Dane's though.
My vet has never had English Mastiffs in his 30 year practice, he has had many Danes. I'm only guessing, but the Dane might be slightly more common.
Oddly, both are fantastic breeds. I've owned all sorts of breeds over the last 30+ years and I wouldn't have anything other than a Mastiff.

In the US, the Great Dane is more common. The bull mastiff (not to be confused with the mastiff) is second and the mastiff is third. You sadly don't see many mastiffs these days.

im on australia and would have to say its quite even. i have an english mastiff which are not as common as the bullmastiff. but there are quite a few great danes as well. both are beautiful, gentle giants of the dog world and if you have the space and love are well worth having... i would say there are more mastiffs in england as this is where most originate from. good luck!!

I've seen more Great Danes here in the States. I've rarely seen any Bull Mastiffs here. Don't know about the other countries.

Both are equally bad. They belong on ranches not cooped up in the city. Dont be stupid.
They only live to 7 or 8.
They eat a TON of dog food which isnt cheap.
Then they have HUGE bowel movements which you have to shovel up or it will put craters in your lawn. I know. My neighbors had one and the lawn had to be replaced.
They got rid of the mastiff by the way. Size doesnt impress anyone for more than a minute so....WHY?
