Once you quit, don't smoke -- not even a puff.
Get support and encouragement from friends and family.

Hi there (",)

Advice on how to quit smoking- that I know has worked...
1. Ween yourself off it... if you smoke thirty a day, go down to 29 a day for a week and so on, you could push yourself and remove two after a while, then three. My sister and a friend did it this way and both of them haven't started smoking again.
2. Hypnotherapy- but you have to be 'therapy ready' for this to work. You yourself will have to want to stop smoking and your body will have to want to stop as well, as it is a big change in your body from being used to six yrs ok smoking to nothing.

How did you quit before and why didn't it work?
If you started due to stress and thought that smoking would relieve it... Could I please say that smoking only adds stress... it takes out that money that you could use to put away for retirement or your childs college fee's etc. Another factor is the stress it puts on your body.
I've also heard rumours that those people high-up on the ladder are wanting to ban cigarettes totally (doubt that'll happen as it'd be good for all's health and the universe if it did, but the unimployment again might not be good).
Well Good Luck, have the strength and will to stop.
You can do it! There's a high success rate... be one of them (",)

Cheers.

Play like the bear had some great suggestions. I smoked for 7 years and I think the first step is to recognize how disgusting it is. I saw a picture of myself with my overflowing ashtray on the table in front of me and it wasn't very sexy! So I just went with that feeling, getting more and more disgusted with not being able to breath properly, spending $ and so on till one day a couple weeks later I quit cold-turkey, no gum, no patches, no pop pychology. After 2 weeks I broke down and bought a pack, smoked half a cig and was so nauseated I threw the new pack out the car window. After the first couple days of withdrawl, its all mental. I know you can do it and wish you the best of luck!

I quit after 25 years with help from the Nicotrol patch. First of all you have to really want to quit. It's not easy, but it can be done.
It's been 10 years since I quit. Good luck.

I don't smoke but I've helped people quit.

A nicotine patch, gum, or such really helps in the beginning, to cut down on cravings. My mom's tried most - she likes the nicotine "cough drops" best. Not sure what the brand name is, she got them at Walmart.

Drink a lot of water or clear fluids. Also having healthy snacks or gum helps.

Avoid hanging around smokers, and find a few non-smoking friends to be coaches!

Zyban is amazing. My mom smoked for 34 years and quit in just 3 weeks. All cravings gone completely, hasn't even thought about a cigarette in months. Zyban works directly on the addiction centre of your brain to eliminate the cravings.
