A good friend will tell her in a soft, helpful way. Don't be critical. There must be a reason for it if it is a recent phenomenon. Ask her if there have been any radical changes in her life recently. Something is wrong if this is a recent thing and never showed itself before...

Why don't you go out shopping together and take her to the shops which relate to her "personal hygiene problems". Simply say ohh this deodorant smells beautiful you should buy it! or have a girly night where you buy pamper products like perfume, face wash, nail kits, or even wash each others hair and state in a friendly way that she might have lice or she needs to get anti dandruff shampoo etc. The worst thing that a person could do to a girl is tell her straight out that she smells, has a horrible complexion and nasty hair. Just be nice.

The same situation arose when I was in college. It was not my best friend but a good enough friend who used to sit often next to me in class. She had load of nits in her hair, even lice. The other two friends who sit next to her also noticed and none of them could pick up the courage to tell her. So I thought I'd tell her. Did not want to hurt her in anyway. One day when we finished class and were walking, our other two friends walked in front of us. I stopped her and said, "Wait! there is something moving in your hair, probably a bug?" and reached forward to check it out and said in a very concerned away, "I think you caught lice from someone...shall I check it further?". I dropped my backpack on the ground as if I was going to check it for her. She stopped me and said she'd check it out when she got home. She was embarrased. I put her at ease by saying, "take care of it in the early stages itself". She was no way in the early stages of it. She cleaned up within a month. Do the same if you can.

As for her stinking, tell her that her deo is not working.

The facial skin is an extension of the scalp (or is it the other way around?! lol). When she takes care of her hair and scalp, her skin will improve too.

If you both are real close, maybe you can really discuss this issue if she won't fly off the handle or something. Offer to help her in the weekend with the hair and face bit, (if you can) with the lice oils and shampoos. Face packs for her pimples and stuff like that.

Just guessing that your friends age, but is she early teens? Hormone levels start changing at that age and people can change in dramatic ways without being fully conscious of these changes. If you are indeed a friend you should sit down with her in private and explain what is going on and how she has changed. Please be supportive, not critical. The rest is then up to her.

casually notice her... nits on her hair
casually bring up the casual of all girls HAVING TO wear deodrant in the age of their teens, because they smell or something...
she's probably a teen. she's going to have a lot of pimples.
