I have a doubt if he has to apply for a Visa or so, or if only Passport and valid Green Card is enough?

He can leave and re-enter the US with a valid passport and his green card; whether he will need a visa to enter Mexico will depend on their reciprocity with his country of citizenship.

well actually you needd to go to the mexican consulate in youre town and get a mexican passport its about 35 dollars for one year, but if its too late i belive you can still travel with youre green card but they will investigate you more.
