The biggest problem is if you do not get the odor out, the dog will just pee there again. If you have a male dog and he is peeing on the legs of furniture, you have to get the odor off the furniture as well as the pee out of the carpet.

Various chemical cleaning solutions can remove the odor, some can actually make the odor worse. If you hire a cleaning service, I would recommend Stanley Steemer. They just use hot water so there is no chance of a bad chemical reaction with the urine.

If you do it yourself, a steam carpet cleaner is still the way to go.
If it is really bad, consider pulling up the carpet, painting the wood under it with KILLZ and then put down hardwood floors.

One thing you MUST do, make sure the dog knows you do NOT like him peeing in the house. If you can install a dog door so he can get out when he has to go, that may solve your problem.

Instead of all that work just buy "Nature's Miracle" at Petsmart, it's a little pricey but it works!! I have 3 dogs and you'd never know it. It works because of natural enzymes that kill the amonia in the urine. Soak up as much as you can then saturate the area, rub the top of the spot to clean the urine stain but let it stay soaked and dry on it's own, you'll never smell it. Works great for blood and Poop stains too. Trust me, I've been using it for years, tried all the other products and none work. Good luck

For furniture and carpet, use Nature's Miracle from PetSmart. you elect to pour on sufficient to soak the affected section, then enable it dry. After that, it incredibly is recommended to wipe the furniture with a moist fabric if it feels ordinary, and shampoo the carpet despite in case you frequently do it to eliminate any residue of the purifier. For something that could pass in the showering device, upload some ammonia on your detergent for colored products and bleach to white products. For partitions and not undemanding-floor flooring, ammonia or any sturdy purifier. do not mixture ammonia and bleach. the two are undesirable to respire, yet very effective and affordable.

Use a vinegar and water mix. Just try a test spot on a hidden part of the carpet first to make sure it doesn't discolor when it dries, but the vinegar normally neutralizes the odor enough to allow the water remove the stain. They sell bitter apple spray at pet stores to use to keep your pet from returning or use it around where you don't want the pet to go

I've tried everything, and I live in a rental with really light colored carpet. Spot Shot is the best! Following the directions is key once you get it.

you can't !!!! the urine as well as dust gets trapped below the pad and a shampooer can not get down that deep.
most people who don't even had dogs don't have rugs for that reason. use a diffrent flooring and some throw rugs that you can put in washer.
