Cats get worms from fleas and hunting usually, most commonly they get tapeworms (small rice sized worms) from these two sources. If that's what you are seeing, you need to get a dewormer from the vet, some states don't sell tapeworm dewormers over the counter. If he hunts or has fleas, the tapeworms will come back unless you stop the hunting and keep the fleas off of him (fleas carry tapeworm eggs int their stomachs, cat swallows flea while grooming, cat gets tapeworms).

Roundworms are pretty common too, especially in kittens. They can be born with these or pick it up while nursing, roundworms are hardy buggers ,and even mother dogs and cats from the cleanest of homes pass them on to their babies. The life cycle is fascinating but too complicated to post. To be safe, get a broad-spectrum dewormer that covers both.

tapeworms are the most common and they get those from swallowing a flea. Even you can carry a flea in from outdoors or they can jump into the house if there are animals outside. You need to give the correct meds to get rid of them...over the counter stuff does NOT work. You need to get pills or an injection from the vet. Tapeworms look like little grains of rice when dry. If it is not tapeworms you need to bring a stool sample to the vet for a diagnosis so you can get proper treatment.

It might be what's coming inside. My kitten ate a cockroach and nearly died from the worms and parasites. Figure out which worms he's getting, and ask your vet to sell you an over the counter that works, or have a standing prescription ready. Mosquitos and flies also carry different worms, and that's enough to give him heartworms.

kittens can get worms from their momma cat. Why not take kitty to the vet for a more through de-worming?
