I had surgery about 3 weeks ago and was under anesthesia for a couple of hours. My hair seems to have a completely different texture than before surgery. It seems brittle. Does anesthesia affect us like this?

Although all types of anesthesia involve some risk, major side effects and complications from anesthesia are uncommon. Your specific risks depend on your health, the type of anesthesia used, and your response to anesthesia.

Personal risk factors
Your age may be a risk factor. In general, the risks associated with anesthesia and surgery increase in older people.

Certain medical conditions, such as heart, circulation, or nervous system problems, increase your risk of complications from anesthesia.

Complications from local anesthesia
When used properly, local anesthetics are safe and have few major side effects. However, in high doses local anesthetics can have toxic effects caused by their being absorbed through the bloodstream into the rest of the body (systemic toxicity). This may significantly affect your breathing, heartbeat, blood pressure, and other body functions. Because of these potential toxic effects, equipment for emergency care must be immediately available when local anesthetics are used.

The changes in your hair are most likely not caused by the anesthesia. Perhaps the type of surgery you had affected your hair. Your hormones could be "off", your diet may be different than it was pre-op, the weather is much different now than it was 3 weeks ago if you live in the snow belts.

These days, anesthesia is excreted from your body rather quickly, less quickly in people who have a lot of body fat, so it's unlikely the anesthesia had anything to do with your hair changes.

I had local anesthesia injected in my chest and side of my face because i was getting moles removed from these areas. Everything went well and then after I got home about an hour later I started having heart palpitations. I was thinking that when it was injected into my chest that caused it.I did call the doctor office and they said that it probably didn't.That went on for about a few hours and then it stopped. I'm thinking it did have something to do with it

Unfortunately I don't know about hair,, I don't have any LOL. but I do know that after surgery you do lose a little bit of memory and become forgetful of things we once knew.

Then again, I did have 3 operations when i was a kid of about 10 - 14, maybe that's why I don't have any hair.
LOL
