This seems to make sense:
"Experts say it may stem from the way certain alcoholic beverages are digested. Carbonated drinks like beer and sparkling wines, for example, tend to irritate the lining of the stomach, increasing the rate of alcohol absorption. Starting with beer and then adding wine or liquor may conceivably lead to intoxication more quickly. "
But then they claim:
"It is the total quantity of alcohol consumed, not combined, that influences intoxication and sickness. "

We're assuming here that beer has much less alcohol per volume than liquor, so if you get drunk on beer, then you're really messing yourself up by drinking liquor when you're already trashed.
If you start drinking liquor, you get drunk then switch to beer which, not having as much alcohol, won't throw you on your ***.
Also, you drink less as you get drunker (usually) because you slow down. You may only finish 1 or 2 beers at the end of the night, but you could easily down a whole bunch of shots.
Another thing is that when you're mixing drinks at the end of the night, you don't have the same perception when it comes to the liquor/mix ratio.

if you drink alot of beer and then have a mixed drink or a few shots then you will get sick. Beer tends to make you stomic more full and liquor will just make you sick from all the sugar. If your gonna drink i suggest that you drink one or the other rather then both, trust me I've been there many many times.

its due to the viscosity and density of the liquids you are mixing.
Imagine your stomach full of Liquor....now have a bud light or 2....what will happen...for the most part the beer will not "uproot" the undigested liquor, and you will feel fine.
Now imagine a stomach full of beer. Drop in a few shots of Jack.....where does it go? Straight through the beer to the bottom of your stomach....it begins to churn and disrupt the digestion of your beer.....enough to cause some to get ill.

its not true. Honestly its different for every one and there personal tolerance. I would suggest honestly i know this sounds bad, but put the two myths to the test and see which one is your evil. It could be neither or both or it could be any drinks at all. you don't have to get drunk just have like two beers and then switch and have two mixers. JUST BE SAFE

well i can say that it is not a myth i did it one time and threw up all night, but when i do it that way i'm always fine. I think it has something to do with the carbonation in the beer.

It's a myth. Your body will reject the alcohol once it has had enough, whichever way round you do it.....
