What age? Anything under college and I agree with you. I thought that the soda machines were bad!

What to do about it? Depends on how involved you want to get.

I'd start by stressing to your kid why you don't feel that drinking this regularly is a good idea. Banning them from it might make them more inclined to embibe the beverages.

If you want to get involved, go to a school board meeting and make a stink (with facts to follow up your argument), but realize that you're in it for the long-haul if you do that. If it's what you believe in, then why not?

I bet whatever answers you get here will be interesting, but I'd love to see this Q get moved to the "parenting" category.

I agree with you..of all the beverages you would think someone would have sense enough to ban something loaded with caffeine and not the best choice for children.

It's also so very addictive and why would the people in charge think they are doing the students a favor by allowing them to consume these drinks ?

Their bodies are already in gear like a motorcycle ready to go 100 mph. why add to the energy levels.

With all the ads on TV and in magazines...how cool it is to drink coffee...no wonder it's allowed in school....you can be cool drinking other drinks that are free of caffeine instead of getting all wired up with coffee.

Parents need to communicate with each other and ban together and force the school board to kick the coffee out of the cafeteria there is time for them to consume it later but not at this stage of life.

I think it depends on the age of the child. For high school students I think it is fine however, for grade school students I think it is a horrible idea! It it setting the grounds for caffine to become a regular thing at a young age. Personally, I drank coffe while in high school. It was not sold at my school, but I got one on my way in at DD.

is it the powdered stuff? if it is it has no more caffiene in it than hot chocolate. if it's the real stuff like you would get at starbuck's or boston stockers, then it is up to you to tell them to stay away from it

I think it's OK...as long as all the products are decaffeinated.
