Beech. Fine grain, light color, sands to a glass-like sheen with no finish at all, stable once finished, inexpensive.

Also hickory, beautiful wood, strong as iron and cheap, but HARD to work.

Mahogny, Ebony, or Brazilian Cherry...but I prefer darker woods.

I would "prefer" something expensive like rock maple or red oak, but for the money, poplar is my favorite.
Stable, machinable, strong, takes finishes evenly.

It depends, If I am
making something I prefer pine
as it is easy to work with, but for decorating
I think oak or lacquered pine is nice for doors
or furniture.

I think my all time favorite is maple. Perhaps because of its workability or its light golden strength or its fine grain or possibly because it reminds me of the sweet sap of the tree which is made into the best syrup. Of course there is birch with its sweet branch tips...

pine for the furniture. cedar for the flooring. and painted wood or varnished wood for the ceiling. hope i helped. =)

i personally go with the three or five wood.

Tiger maple.....very beautiful grain pattern. Its expensive though. After that id have to go with poplar.

For floors and cabinets, I like oak. For window trim and moldings, doors, etc., I like the white painted stuff.
