Why would they do that, does it make it taste better? Who thought of it

only mezcal has the worm in it. which is similar to tequila in that they are both distilled from agave plants. all tequilas are mezcal, but not all mezcal are tequila. Tequila only comes from blue agave plant. Mezcal can come from any agave.

Apparently the worm is found on the agave plants and back in the 1940s some guy named Jacobo Lozano Paez found that the worm changed the taste of the agave. It is considered a delicacy in mexico.

If you want specific brands look for the words "con gusano" which means "with worm"

yes, some tequila's have a worm in the bottom of it. the worm soaks up the alcohol making it very potent. other things i have personally seen and tried. A habu snake in a bottle of sake, called habu sake, and even a scorpion in a bottle of vodka.
