Use a lot of Blue , yellow & white .. Blue walls , white wood work , Yellow , blue & white curtins or just blue & white , bed spread , pillows . Yellow flowers in a white pitcher .You don't have to use a lot a yellow , just enough to ackcent your room Hang blue & white dishes on the walls .
A room in these colors & decor is very grown up & soooo relaxing .
You can go frilly or more on the plain side with less stuff .
Do what feels right for you .
Check at the librery for books on French Decor , with lots of pictures . look at the pictures & if one or more of them makes you feel good , color & style wise go for it .
Look around your home for items in colors that go with the colors you end up using that look French or other wise .
What ever you do make sure you pick colors & things to decorate with that apeal to your eye & inter sences .
I used these colors & it was my best looking room .
Have fun & good luck finding a French style you'll enjoy living with .

use cream or ivory white and french slate blue as the 2 dominant colours.Paint the furniture ivory with that aged-look crackle paint. use some Monet or other French Impressionist prints for artwork.have a couple of small round tables with tableclths that go right to the floor--these would make good night-tables. try to keep the lines simple and uncluttered. if you use too much floral or flouncy, frilly stuff, you'll end up with another shabby chic mess. try to make it a little more subdued and formal or will easilt slip into a cutesy french country look instead of french romantic. A few touches of antique gold or bronze (maybe in the lamps) would add some sophistication. dont use large scale, bold floral prints in the window treatments or bed dressing. Incorporate a few throw cushions in some rich, bold mettallic colors; maybe some of the same material for a slipcover on an armchair. A bronze tiffany or art-nouveau lamp would be a nice touch. Dont forget to put a dimmer switch on your lights for romantic atmosphere....

French contry colors are white, blue and yellow. Toile prints and stripes, even plaids in two colors are mixed together.
You might want to go to a book store with a large magazine display, or interior design display, and browse through the magazine, might even find one with a cover of French Country design.
Use your budget toward subsantial pieces, and accessorize with your personal items. By its very definition French country is sort of 'over done.'

Dusty colors like grey lavenders and dusty pinks do it matched with wine colors. Any grille/scroll wrought iron work in your bed or wall decor would work. Rich deep toned wood or rubbed black furniture goes too.
If you are going for Parisian, stripe and black and white goes.
www.ballarddesigns.com has great examples of old french, Parisian and French country.
