I know its sort of geeky, but the best way to learn about anything is to read about it - so here is the link to the instructions for completing a 1040: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/i1040gi.pdf

Every form the IRS has includes instructions. Sometimes the terminology is a little weird, but you can always call them as well!

www.irs.gov is a great site if you know what your looking for or have some experience with taxes.

For $36 bucks at walmart you can get turbo tax fed and state .... costco had a coupon for $22 2 weeks ago....
Unless you have a keen interest in taxes, just get the turbo tax.
