Before you take Ibuprofen, discuss it with your doctor. If he says it's OK, take the dosage he tells you to - no more. Despite what the answer below says...there CAN BE issues with taking both.
See this for more info...especially the section on "What other drugs will affect Ibuprofen?": http://www.drugs.com/ibuprofen.html It says, "If you are using any of these drugs" (i.e. steriods) "you may not be able to use ibuprofen or you may need dosage adjustments or special tests during treatment." My guess is he/she will recommend against it.
Don't take aspirin.
You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol). http://www.bccancer.bc.ca/HPI/DrugDatabase/Appendices/Appendix4/PrednisonePtInfo.htm
In any case, consult with your doctor...
Never take 600 mg of Ibuprofen at once. That is well above the recommended dosage of 200-400 mg.

RE:
Can I take ibuprofen and prednisone at the same time?
Was given an antibiotic for pneumonia, plus prednisone to reduce swelling in lungs. Dosage is 60mg prednisone in the mornings for 5 days total (this is the 2nd day). How does prednisone affect ibuprofen? Would it be safe to take 400 or 600 mgs ibuprofen for a backache? Thanks.

Ibuprofen is an NSAID, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug that also acts as a anti-febrile (reduces temperatures) and is a pain reliver. Prednisone when used in the correct dose as prescribed by a physicain go by the generic name of cortisone, with lovier trade names bandied about, such as, Deltasone, Meticorten, Orasone, and SK-Prednisone.
Taking the two medications as per your doctors orders for a few days should cause no affect as they have no know interactions that we are presently aware of. Use caution when taking ibprofen for an extented period of time as it has a tendency to cause GI Bleeds, whichs leads to cramping, abdominal distention and extreme discomfort. The same caution is given for prednisone, on long term usage symptom start any where form skin eruptions, cronic pimples, dry flacky skin-everywhere, if you require extended use you absolutely must speek with your doctor about getting a bone density test done to see if you need to take addtional calcium. Finally, make sure that you keep yourself hydrated with water or fruit juice. Stay away from diet cola's or any sodas contains phenyl's. Good luck!

You can't cold turkey stop the prednisone, you have to wean off, I would take tylenol not ibuprofen until you are off the prednisone. Maybe use a heating pad for the back ache.

Contact a pharmacy, they should be able to tell you what is the safest thing to do. Prednisone is pretty powerful stuff, and has lots of side effects. Your back might be hurting if your kidneys are irritated from the Prednisone, it's just something you should be taking care of at your pharmacist's. Good luck.

ASK YOUR DOCTOR !!! Personally, I would only take Acetaminophen (Tylenol) with Prednisone. Ibuprofen is ALSO an anti-inflammatory, as is Prednisone. After all, you don't want to cook your kidneys, liver or heart. Caution is best.

During acute low back pain episodes, I would normally have bi-lateral epidural steroid injections. But on my last event my insurance had changed and I found myself owing nearly $1000 for the entire procedure. The good news is it worked and was no longer in pain...about 6 months go by.. and I go golfing!!! yes.. good hip rotation, good ball contact.. having fun.. THEN.. I wake up the next morning all crooked and unable to walk upright.. fatigue in my hips.. my L-5,S-1 is out again.... uuuuugh.. so $1000 or med it out????..
Well folks I chose to med this one out!! bad bad bad.. Im currently taking a prednisolone dose pack and 2 ibuprofens with Percocet. it has taken nearly 5 weeks to be able to walk upright again... that s WITH therapy massages, PDR clinic... The pain is driving me mad.. I don t know what to do anymore.. Every single time I try to better my back.. it flares up...My surgeon is recommending a triple fusion. and im 45 yrs old..
