The gums on the left side of my mouth bleed very easily or they just started to, could it be because I've gotten a new toothbrush its a med. But I can't brush on the side for too long, before it starts to bleed. Should I get it checked out?

The same thing happened to me. I went to the dentist and got my teeth cleaned and it's gotten way better. Soft toothbrushes are better for your teeth than the medium toothbrushes. After I got my teeth cleaned they told me if my gums still bleed just to keep making sure I brush my gums because the brushing will help make the gums stronger and eventually they should stop bleeding. Basically when you brush you just have to deal with the bleeding until the gums get stronger. This has all been within the last two weeks.

Gums are soft tissues that hold your teeth and structure up your mouth and jaw. I'd advise using SOFT toothbrush for your current problem.

Gums may bleed if you have suffered trauma, hurt yourself so that there is a cut producing bleeding.

Gums (ginigva) will also bleed if you have gum disease.
Gingivitis occurs in the first stage of the disease ,it is reversible through GOOD ORAL HYGIENE CARE. The plaque, which is made up of bacteria ,body cells, food debris, gets stuck to your teeth and builds up after you have brushed off. These build up,and as the bacteria munch on the food, attacking your gums as well, producing infection, inflammation, now if you have been missing the area for sometime ,the bigger the plaque the greater the damage and so if by chance when you brush ( minimal contact ) at the ignored area it will cause bleeding.

If you have really neglected that area ,the plaque that looked like white film or white soft paste will soon turn into tartar or calculus (approx ~ 48hrs ) and if these hardened mess grows over time collecting ever more plaque, more calculus to form ,it will invade your gums, pushing the tissue fibers holding on to your teeth to break down, your teeth will start to shake, become painfully, ugly ,gross ,become infected, start dying out. These is periodontitis , irreversible condition that can be cure through self home ,requires dentist to look at it. You don't wanna go there, requires deep tissue cleaning, antibiotics, etc etc.

Brush well, use gentle circular motion engaging the gum margins.
Use a soft brush ,toothpaste and remember to floss
Use mouth rinse

I tell my patients the best way to brush is in 3 steps that is quick and easy to remember:
Teeth and gums have 3 areas, outside, topside, inside.Brush the outside ( the face of the teeth that you see in the mirror )from right to left for each arch of the mouth . Then brush the other arch in the same manner.
Then brush the topside ( surface that you chew with ) from left to right .
Then the inside ( thats the area that faces the tongue and the roof of you mouth ) .

If you have any missing teeth, dentures, crowns, bridges, crowded malpositioned teeth pay more attention to these areas.

Hope this helps ,take care.

Three things to tell you.Only use a toothbrush thats labeled SOFT. Second, start flossing (deeply )twice or more per day. It will help toughen up the gum s and clean them out. You can rinse your mouth out with warm water and salt . It's supposed to help with bleeding. the water should taste pretty salty. ask your dentist for a flouride rinse ( like Perio med)to help heal your gum tissue. Avoid citrus foods, tomatoes and tomato sauces, and spicy foods until your gums are better. They can irratate the gums and make them prone to bleeding. if you're over 35 and female fluctuating hormones can cause the gums to be more prone to bleeding.Good luck

You may have gingivitis. A common symptom of gingivitis is your gums bleeding easily, basically every time you brush or even touch your gums too roughly. The only time your gums should bleed is occassionally when you floss. They shouldn't bleed every time you brush your teeth. Go to your dentist.

My dentist told me that when your gums bleed it means there are germs there which need to be removed. Don't stop brushing. Brush all your gums and your tongue. Rinse your mouth for 5 seconds with hydrogen peroxide to kill the germs.

Yes, these could be early signs of gingivitis. I suggest using a antibacterial mouth wash on a daily basis to help prevent this from occuring again.

Sounds like gingivitis. Use Listerine and floss.
