He's 14 weeks old. And I looked around today at the pet store, but all of them said S-M adult dogs, M-L adult dogs, ect. None of them specified for a puppy??

I would stay away from greenies, pig ears, and rawhide, they both can cause problems by causing the dog to choke and getting stuck in the g.i. tract. They can be (and have been) deadly. I would recommend the Nylabone Puppy Bone (available at almost all pet stores and Walmart) and real bones. Both are much safer than the other options and they last longer too. Do not give him raw bones though, only the ones that are heat treated and sold for dogs. If your pup really likes rawhide, you can give him the chopped pressed rawhide bones (the rawhide is "chewed" and then pressed into a bone shape. Depending on the breed of your pup, you may not be able to give him much. I have French Bulldogs and because of the anatomy of their throats I cannot give them rawhide or greenies, but they do fine with large real bones and the Nylabones. Whatever you decide is best for your pup just be sure that you keep an eye on him while he is chewing, so if he does get into any trouble you can help. Good Luck!

At 14 weeks, I would recommend Iams small edible bones (yellow box) available at your local Wal-Mart or any decent pet store. Avoid Greenies at this age! Are you attempting to address a chewing issue with your pup?

I personally used bones that have been sterilized through a process where they are baked at high temps. So instead of splintering, they crumble. They are also usually stuffed with some type of filling that is fun for them to lick out. You can find these at petsmart or petco or any other pet store i think.

They are white and have different fillings.
try those
of course take it away when there is only a little bit left so he cant swallow it.

If you happen to have a butcher near you look for a good size beefy bone that is appropriate for your dogs age. My dogs have always loved them and I do not have to worry about the bones splinterring. I prefer the beefy bones then the plastic or rawhide types.

Get a real bone. Specialty dog food stores carry them. If you don't have one of those...go to the butcher, and make sure it is a shank bone.

DON"T feed greenies....they swell up with the fluid in a dogs stomach. Dogs have died from them!

Nylabones are okay....if your dog likes fake bones. Mine have never wanted them, though.

Another great thing, is to get a Kong toy from your petstore.

Look up Kong recipes online. (don't buy Kong fillling, it's too expensive...the online recipes are great).

You fill the Kong toy with it, and freeze the Kong toy.. Then give it to your dog. It not only makes them work longer (because you froze it), it also helps puppies when they are teething.

The sizes are there to help you pick the right size bone for your dog's mouth, if you're not sure which size, pick the larger one. Large dogs can swallow whole bones meant for small dogs. Try getting him a variety and see what he goes for-nylabone hard and soft, Kong, dentabone, Greenies are all good. The baked hard natural bone ones can be good for a really aggressive chewer. All chew toys must be closely supervised and discarded immediately if your dog can get all of it in his mouth or can break pieces off, ESPECIALLY superivse rope toys and rawhides. Not inherently bad, but rawhides can swell in the stomach and cause a blockage if the dog swallows chunks, and rope toys can cause serious trouble if the dog's shredding it.

No rawhides!!! Have had nothing but bad experience with them with my 1st dog. First he choked on one and was able to pull it out of his throat. Then when he finally did manage to swallow one that was bout 1/2 chewed, he had to have surgery to get it out of him cause they aren't digestible. Think about it, a wild animal doesn't eat the hide/fur of the prey it kills, just the meat..for a reason, they can't digest the hide. Rawhide is just that, the hide of a cow.

I have always bought the pressed rawhide bones for my dogs. They are available in many different sizes and shapes and put up with sharp puppy teeth for alot longer than regular rawhide/milk bones. They are usually available in the pet section of the bulk food stores.
Good Luck with the new pup.

Ham bones, thick steak bones( on t-bones if ya can, break off the long thin section), baby back rib bones ( the longer ones a they are thicker and won't splinter) and pork chop bones, do the same with them as far as breaking off the long thin section as you would on t-bone steak bones. No chicken bones,as they can splinter and get stuck in their throats
