Frederick Douglas. He was the son of a white southern planter and an African American slave and was born in the eighteen hundreds. He was taught to read somewhat by wife of the planter who purchased him, and even after being forbidden to continue his education, he taught himself to read and write so well that he published an autobiography. An extremely intelligent man, he eventually escaped to the North and became a leading abolitionist during the Civil War years.

Stay in school. Study and learn. That is what opens every door.
Each generation should try to do better than the one before. My parents worked hard and lived frugally to give me a chance. I'm trying not to blow it.
