It's a habit. Whether they are nervous or not it is a habit. you may never have seen them do this before because maybe they wanted to keep it a secret either way secrets come out and its a habit.(a gross one at that)

I chewed my nails out of habit. But when I started dating my husband, he put a stop to it.
Some people may chew because they're nervous..or both. n

People can bite their nails for many reasons.
Nervous, bored. Something pinching them from the nail.
It doesn't neccessarily have to be a habit.

its a gross habit - someone should take a good look at what is under their fingernails under a microscope. Your hands will never get near your mouth after that.
