Seems like a pretty typical Dal name... not bad tho.

Sprinkles is cute, and not quite so "Dalmation" obvious :)

There's two ways to approach this question. Do you want something that fits and may be obvious or something original that makes your pet stand out a little bit?

Dotty seems like an obvious name for a Dalmatian, to me. If I wanted to play off of that, I'd say, "Stripes" or "Polka Dot" or "Inkie" or something that suggests the dots or contradicts the dots. *grin*

I tend to name my animals less for their physical characteristics and more from novels I've read, movies I've loved and so forth. Most people could guess where you got Dotty from, but what if you named him/her Darth Vader? Or Curious George? Or even some video game character like Sephiroth or Master Chief? Then meeting someone can also be a conversation starter: "Where'd you get his name from?" "Oh, I love Halo and I love my dog...thus 'Master Chief". *grin*

In the end, a pet's name is a very personal choice. It's one you---and they---have to live with for a long while (I hope!). Test it out. Call your dog in for supper. Yell at your dog for chewing up your slippers. Call for him when he's lost. Talk to him when you've just come home and he's all waggly, excited puppy to see you.

I almost named my chow/boxer/mutt mix dog "Aggamemnon"....and then I realized we'd all be calling this sturdy, muscular dog "Aggie"! No! A few tries later, he became "Keyser Soze" or just "Keyser". (I miss him!)

Good luck on your naming. I hope you enjoy your dog, whatever you name him/her!

Eh, it's ok I guess. I agree that it is playing on the fact that she is a dalmatian a little too much. But if you like it, then that's what matters. I personally like "Dot" better than "Dotty" though.

yes, great name! I myself have a Dotty and there is nothing wrong with the name it tells her breed. I call her Lotty Dotty and she loves that!

Is it a girl? How many spots does he/she have? I like the name ok for some dalmations but I think that names need to be based on personality. I like Splash for a male dalmation because they look like they were splashed with paint. Oreo is another one that I have heard used to for a dalmation. Hershey is one because of where Hershey now has the cookies and cream candy bar.

Yes, but not very original. Half the dalmations we see are named Dotty.

I *love* it! That is very clever!

Although I think the spelling Dottie is cuter...

I'm a firm believer that if you wouldn't give the name to your own child, dont give it to your dog.

But then again, this is coming from someone with a dog named Kittie, so take it or leave it =]
