I've noticed a girl in my physics class glancing at me and smiling. I can't seem to make eye contact with her long enough to even begin a conversation. She seems super shy, either that or I'm completely wrong and she's avoiding me. How do I begin a conversation with or ask out someone that gives one word replies?

I'm shy! When a guy is checking me out I just act like I didnt see it, even if I like him. I'm dumn I know but what I'm really looking for is someone who I can feel comfortable with. A guy I dont know checking me out just leads to uncomfortable first impressions...blah! I'm most comfortable when the guy is outgoing and can make me laugh, so then I can genuinely be interested in him. Chances are she thinks you're cute if she can make eye contact w/ you at all. Asking her about a physics problem, then making fun of the teacher is a definite way to go!...lol
good luck buddy

You're the guy! Walk up to her and say "hello"! If she gives you one word answers, steer the conversation to the possibility of taking her out one night. If she says yes, then she'll probably open up more once you two are out together. If she says no, the worst that will happen is you were a little off-base but at least you don't have to drive yourself crazy enough about it to have to ask random people on Yahoo! Answers ! :) Good luck guy and go for it!!

I'm a guy but i was attracted to a shy girl once. I just asked for help and moved on from there making conversation. Just don't asked close ended questions cuz that won't get them talking.

Did you have a booger hanging out of your nose at the time? Just Kidding! Why not try starting out with a simple, "Hi, how are you?" That seems low- key and common and puts a small "ball" in her court without causing her to raise any automatic defenses. See how she responds to that and go from there. Be conversational to draw her out, but don't try to impress her. Being a bit of a "goofball" seems to work best with shy girls- puts them more at ease...

Shy girl = a girl who is DYING for you to approach her. she is giving you all the hints, the smiling and glancing = hey cutie, i want you to come over here and talk to me bc im too chicken to come to you.... which is great, she is in your class so you could pass her a note, or walk over and ask her a physics question, and thank her afterwards, and instead of walking away, just bring up friendly talk... "so yeah, how are you liking this class so far?"
ect ect...

Since you're asking the internet I suppose that you are kinda shy too. That's a pretty cute couple, just try to talk about something when it is relevant or when you pass by her. Best of luck dude.

hey, im like that too....lol!
hahahahhaha
anyway,
to ask a girl like that out, approach her with something humourous--like a funny comment about something or something. Or, ask her a Question about something in the physics class, just to start talking with her. keep talkin to her, even if she doesn't respond much. she'll open up to u more and more if u do that. good luck

If she's shy she probably likes when you're outgoing to her.

Opposites attract.

Plus, shy people never make the first move.

You should go for it.

Start off slow.
When you see her look up at you say hi. it will catch her off guard and she'll say hi back. if she turns red, or seemly embarrassed, she's interested in you.
if it turns out shes actually interested, increase the simple hi to "whats up", etc.
let things bloom :P

Tell her you're having difficulty understanding some of the physics and hope that she can help you.
