What I have used is some type of scaring cream, cover it up right after you cut it then keep the bandaid off (continue with the cream) and let it dry out. There are some crems that reduce scaring.

If your tetanus shots are not up to date you should get one from your doctor. That is the most important thing you should be concerned about. Then you might try neosporin on a bandaide until it heals. Mederma is an OTC cream that you can begin rubbing onto the scar once the wound is not open anymore. This cream minimizes scarring.

Being a mother of three active boys, I'd have to say band aid plus plenty of neosporin anti-scaring cream!

You didn't say how long it is,or if you got stitches.
No stitches- you can use what are called steri-strips they will hold the sides of the cut together so it heals cleaner and causes less scarring.
Stitches- you have to wait until they are removed then you can rub vitamin E on it after the scab has fallen off.
Just make sure either way not to remove the scab as it will cause scarring.

Keep it clean. dry and leave it alone. Band-aids keep wounds moist and take longer to heal that way. And when a wound is moist you are more likely to get an infection. Band aids are really just to help bleeding.

you should wear a band aid until the cut is mostly healed and use neosporan or something to that affect to minimize scarring; be careful not to use too much(just a dab) because it will make your cut worse.

Its not so much band aid as using a neopsorin ointment, protect it from the sun for a few months.
