I like Gandhi's theory: "An eye for an eye makes the whole world blind."

An "eye for an eye" is Old Testament. We live in the New Testament times and therefore are supposed to "turn the other cheek". I certainly hope that I am able to do so most if not all of the time. Have a great evening.

Well, it helps to use context. Jesus said, "You have heard it said, 'an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth', but I say to you, do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also." Matthew 5:38-39
Jesus was saying that "an eye for an eye" is what most ppl believed to be the right way of dealing with others; in other words, most ppl believed in revenge. But Jesus was saying that although that's what they had always heard, that He was telling them the exact opposite--to turn the other cheek and love your enemies.

The Lord will sort out the "eye for an eye" part, but there are many types of cristians, not all will turn the other cheek, some will defend.

The "Eye for an Eye" line has long since been taken out of contexts of what it truely means.
It is written that Jesus says in the book of Romans,"Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves but rather give place unto wrath, for it is written"VENGEANCE IS MINE,I WILL REPAY saith the Lord".
Perfect example of this is capital punishment.
Executing criminals is not justice but rather pure vengeance of which has nothing really to do with having justice be done whatsoever.
