such a broad question... if your just replacing the stock one then go to the dealer, if your trying to get something aftermarket well.... if your not running subs then a good brand to get is Jensen or Sony Xplode(under 200 bucks).... if your running subs go with pioneer DEH 6500 or highier series OR Alpine (over 250 bucks) for best sound quality.... other than that you can go to millionbuy.com or ebay.com and just price search for car electronics/head units(in dash receivers)

If you want a stock Radio then Look up the # to the Subaru Manufacturer and ask them the part # and type of radio.
If you don't want a Stock radio (and by stock that means the original type of radio that the car was made with) then you can purchase any radio that will fit into the spot for the radio. If the Radio you want is Too small they have kits you can buy to make the radio fit in the dash board.
Go to your Local Best Buy or Sterio Dealer that has someone Trained to work in the Sterio section and Ask them about the radios, pick one you like, then ask about installing it and the kits.
they can istall it for you if you'd like for more $, but be carefull that they don't sell you a bunch of stuff that you don't need, making you spend Xtra $ on. You might want to take a Friend who knows about radios with you (if you have one that is)
Look up '97 Subaru Radios in the Online General Search and see what pulls up. You might be able to buy a Radio online and then have someone instill it for you once you get it. It might or might not be cheaper that way, depends on the cost of the radio and who installs it for you.
Good Luck

Get what you want...even if it dont fit, you dont necessarily have to have it in the normal spot...if it doesnt fit there, rig up a mount on top of the dash/floor, etc.
