My dog's stiches just opened up, it has only been two days since her surgery (she was spayed) The wound is clean but since it was so recent should we take her back to the vet to get the stiches put back in?

DUH, YES!!!!!!!!!!! If your surgery site opened up, you would go back to the doctor, right??? There's 2 layers to closure, skin and abdominal wall. If the abdominal wall opens too, your dog's intestines will be lying on the rug. DON'T LET YOUR DOG LICK IT!!!!! That can cause a SERIOUS LIFE THREATENING INFECTION and does NOT NOT NOT keep the wound clean. Licking is the #1 reason why surgical sites reopen, and if you have been letting him/her lick, then it's only a matter of time till the abdomen opens up too.

Skip the Neosporin, especially the ointment as it is oil based and it will be in the vet's way when they go to clean and restitch. Very hard to scrub out of a wound. Clean dry bandage and don't let the dog lick, chew, dig or rub at it.

Most vets have an emergency number that you should be able to call and least talk to the veterinarian on call, before you make a decision as to the best way to handle the open wound.
In the meantime, keep it dry and clean. Did the vet tell you when you should take your dog back to have the stitches removed? It sounds like two days is not enough time for the wound to heal properly.
Good luck to you.

Dont put anything on an open wound if you are unsure. Under the layer she has 2 more sutured layers, if she has got them open will may got the others open too, beside that she can introduce infection.
Yes you must take her back to the vet get it resututred and put a special collar around her to stop it from happeneng again until her sutures are healed

Place a clean cool rag over the incision area not warm as this will promote bleeding, get her to an emergency clinic or she may get an infection. If you dont have one in your area keep the rag on her and keep her confined tonight. Take her to the vet 1st thing in the morning. Dont, let her lick at the incision.

Saw that you took her to an emergency vet. Good thing, you wouldn't want it to be open after only two days. Your baby girl will be fine now.

You should call the on call service at the vet if she/he is bleeding. If not you could wait until the morning. If it is pink or puffy around the incision than it could mean infection, also check to see if there is any puss coming out. If she is not swollen, bright pink, or bleeding the call can wait until morning.

TAKE HER IN. dehiscence, especially when it's an abdominal surgery, is an EMERGENCY. she needs to be resutured IMMEDIATELY. imagine if you had a surgery in your abdomen and the stitches came out - trust me, entrails would be a-flying. take her in to get her sutured back up IMMEDIATELY.
