I think the drive for 5 will happen this season..................GO 24 !! What's with all the Gordon bashers out there, I will bet he makes more money than anyone else who answered this........# 8 & # 20 are not my favorite drivers but I will not bash their talent for driving & making money..........

Not Likely. It appeared that Jeff and his crew chief were having some cohesion issues, especially at the end of last year. That would have to turn around before #5 would even become a possiblity. Plus, Jeff is going to face a much harder transition than some of the newer drivers when the COT is introduced. He's been driving the bullet car for so long that the box car is going to take more geting used to.

Earnhardt is how it's spelled. No Gordon won't ever win a another championship. He's finished. Too many better drivers now.

If Slappy McStretch hates NASCAR, why is he on this part of the yahoo web site?

Jeff Gordon will not win another championship - ever. I thinks it is possible for him, but very unlikely. He was the thing for a while but Tony Stewart is the man now and has raised the bar. Jeff is too much of a big cry baby, I can't stand the guy.

I don't think he will. However, anything is possible especially with the implentation of the Car of Tomorrow for a portion of the races this year. That could play a huge role in determining the cup champion this year, especially since a portion of the Chase is COT races.

Gordon is way past due. Its been 6 years....I think things are starting to come around for the #24 team again....did you know that if the Chase wasn't put into place in the first place...Gordon would have had championship number 5 in 2004?

I hope so. Addressing the Gentleman who said there is no way Gordon is greater then Earnhardt.

Look at the Driver's today. Look at them. This field of Drivers right now is the greatest field of Drivers this sport has ever seen. Dale Sr. came into the sport at a time when the old gaurd was on it's way out and the new gaurd was nowhere in sight. Yes, he was great, one of the greatest. But, he had nowhere near the calibur of competition that these Drivers today face.

Gordon was the first of the new gaurd; but lets face it; even at the time he came in the competition was not as fierce as it is right now.

My hats off to Petty, Allison, Earnhardt, and Waltrip ( DW), they made this sport what it is today. Gordon's name belongs right there with them. Whether Gordon gets the 7 Championships or not... he faced the fierciest field too date in NASCAR.

consider these points.
1)jeff gordon has still won more races than anyone else since evernham left.
2)look at the schedule and think back to the time when atlanta was the last race of the season.since then nascar has pinned 3 races on the end of the schedule.think it's odd that these three races are at the only tracks where gordon hasn't won?coincidence,i'm sure.
3)consider the fact that the emphasis has shifted from drivers to teams and you will se why jeff's win totals have fallen off.
i'm sure none if this has to do with marketing to a newer breed of nascar fans, aren't you?
IFFF....the car of tomorrow really does put things back in the hands of the drivers,as nascar says it will, look for jeff to flourish over the next couple years.
as for comparisons to dale sr.,look at their records from 1995 to 2000.it may open your eyes a bit.*
