We purchased a CRV and love it. It has real time 4wd and the braking system on ice is outstanding. I prefer it over the outback.

Subaru has forgotten more about 4WD than Honda ever knew.

Also the new Legacy (and the old ones) are much better looking than the CRV, and depending on the trim and year, can get better fuel economy..

Also, you don't need 4WD to handle winter. Get some skill and some good tires.

get the Outback, It's great. Honda CRV is ok but the Outback is in my opinion far superior. !

Outback Has ALL-WHEEL-DRIVE. much more stable and better traction than any 4WD. Have had mine new since 1997 and would never buy another 4WD....AWD thats where its at!
