The Passat is a little bigger inside/out. And is a little bit more "luxury" than the Jetta.

And once you have it for a while, you'll start noticing the differences between the two.

The Jetta is built off of the A4 platform which includes Golf, Jetta, Beetle, and Audi TT. The Passat is built off of the B5 platform which incules the Audi A4 as well. The Passat is larger and offers different engine packages (1.8T, V6, W8) than the Jetta (2.0, 1.8T, VR6). Oh, and the Passat was also offered in VW's 4WD package a.ka. 4-Motion.

I have a '98 Jetta GLX, I've never had a problem with the engine, everything is standard and the VR6 still runs strong.

the Passat is bigger, more legroom and trunk space. if you put them side by side you'll be able to tell the difference immediately, but apart they look exactly alike. however the new ones look much different, though.........
