Put a container of wet sand in the sunlight with a sheet of clear plastic over it. Push one part of the plastic down to make a funnel-shaped indentation. Put a rock in the indentation to keep it down. Place a clean container under the indentation to catch any condensation that drips down from the plastic.

You can filter the water through an article of clothing. (Put your shirt over the mouth of your water bottle/canteen and lower it into the water to fill up). The water will still taste muddy and be a little gritty, but definitely drinkable (sanitize the water with iodine or by boiling for 20 min if possible)

Put it in something and let the sediments settle to the bottom of the container.
That way, the cleaner water would sit on top of the container, where someone could drink it.

follow the animals and they will eventually bring you where there is potable water or else drink your urine.......now, if you find water that has sand, you are one heck of a lucky guy. just dig and use your t-shirt and strain the sand out and that will be drinkable enough water.
