Hi I am looking into buying a 1998 Dodge Durango for 5,000, but it had transmissions problems. It goes into first gear fine but then it's passing gear before it goes into passing gear. Do you think it needs a transmission or could it be a wire that is telling the transmission to shift that way? It only has 51,000 miles on it, and looks in pretty good shape. If anyone knows what it might be thanks for any information.

Take it to a mechanic(or transmission specialist) before you buy it, especially if it has a trans problem. See what is wrong with it first. I just smoked my trans in my 03 Dakota R/T and it only has 55,000 miles on it, but it has a 7year/70000 mile warrenty so I only had to pay $100 instead of over $2000 for a new transmission. They are not cheap so protect yourself. You don't want to pay 5 grand for this and then have the trans go out on it and pay another 2 grand on top of that to fix it. DON"T BUY IT IF WHOEVER IS SELLING IT WON"T LET YOU TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC FIRST. If its a private seller, pass on it if he won't, if its a dealer and they say they already checked it out, DON"T BELIEVE THEM.
