I would be a 25 year old college freshman who has a high school diploma. Whether it takes me 5 years or 15 years I am determined to help lives as a doctor.

When do you start counting for 10 years?

IN the US, students graduate from high school at about age 18, and then attend a 4-year college for a bachelors degree before starting in Medical School. Med School takes 4 years for the MD degree, and then requires specialty training. In the US, a year of internship is required in every state for licensure. However, almost every graduate complets at least 3 years (and as many as 10 years) or residency training for board eligibility in a given specialty, such as general surgery or dermatology.

There are many medical schools in the Caribbean, India, Russia, etc. You must go to WHO website and see if they are valid medical schools. You can also call the AMA to find out if a certain school is recognized before joining. The advantage studying foreign would be a smaller debt and a wider variety of diseases that you might see.

Well, you can go to places like Russia, India, Romania etc. and get a regular Doctor's degree in about 5 years. When you come back to USA, you need to pass USMLE exams which take about one or two years. What is your current qualification?
