Woah woah, careful there. You're feelings may be really strong, but I would reccomend playing this cool. Stay away from the letter idea, trust me, it will rarely lead to anything good. Just keep talking to him, and casually ask him what he's doing on Valentine's day. If he says he has plans, then you can always tell him you ahve plans too. If he says he dosn't, that's a pretty good opening for you. Ask him to do something casual, a movie is always good and there isn't alot of room for awkwardness. It even gives you something common to talk about afterwards. Be casual, be cool, guys generally don't like desperation. Good luck!!

How many times have you ridden and what are you asked to do when you do ride? If you have been paying for lessons for months or years then you should be cantering by now. There a lot of teachers that will just keep you going slow and not really letting you learn so they can keep you paying for more years. If you get too good too soon you would probably get good and want of a horse of your own and not want any more training. I gave lessons for many years and I felt I was not giving them the moneys worth if they were not galloping and doing a lot with my horses in 3 months. (my horses were very will trained and would move off into a willing quiet slow canter with just a kiss)

its best you wait for him to do something, but if he doesn't, a couple days before valentines you should do something, but nothing drastic. dont overload him with a huge profession of love, or anything.. he might be freaked out. i've been scared off before by girls who've come on too strong but in other circumstances i'd have really liked them.
so i'd say that you should just ask him to be you valentine. it may seem clique or even pointless, but dont let that stop you. this might be the easiest way to let him know you like him without being too strong & in the event that he doesn't like you in the way that you like him (and it sounds like he actually does..) you shouldn't be too embarassed.
so.. i would advise you to just take some opportunity that you two are already talking and pop out with something such as "wanna be my valentine!?" simple & straightforward.. that's your best bet.

Actually, contrary to what you might believe, love letters usually do not go well because you show the person your super interested and then they feel awkward. So get to know this person as a friend and take it from there.

don't give out too much info because that may scare him off, just ask him to be your valentine and see where that goes...get some candy or something and be very laid back about it

Go for it. He may like you too. But don't wait until you are unto your neck in the friend zone.

Why not??? The worst he will say, is No. Then you will move on. Build your confidence and know you can do better.... he may say yes. It never hurts to try.
