brad, i believe we are discussing klitch vs lewis, not byrd. in THIS fight, lennox was indeed lucky to get the nod and ran like crazy afterwards to retirement. he never, in my mind, defeated any fighter of any significance: tyson was over the hill and shot; holyfield was not his usual self and was probably fighting injured; tua imploded and just followed him around the ring; mccall and rachman just were begging to get knocked out; who did i miss? lennox doesn't belong on anyone's top ten list, although some on this website seem to be infatuated w/him. he was just a big man who, occasionally, showed marginal talent when placed w/the right(read shorter) fighters...and w/the greatest trainer in the history of boxing in his corner, how could he miss. w/klitchko he faced a fighter whom i believe was taller than he was and he wasn't used to that. in any case, he's a fraud(lewis) and i am glad he retired. i'm just sorry klitch didn't get the proper chance to spank him good in the rematch....i ain't no klitchko fan, mind you, but had tyson met lewis in the 80's, he would've gone the way of bruno and ruddock and been a wad of gum under mike's shoes as he stepped on him on his path to the top!

Lennox Lewis was the most over rated fighter. He hand picked his opponents at times where they were vulnerable. He got knocked out by 2 bums, rahman and mcall. Should have lost against ray mercer, (bad decion). Ducked Riddick Bowe when he was on his game. Fought tyson when he was done, same with holyfield. Cought a lucky break against Vitali which seemed fishy to me. When they stopped the fight the cut was under control.

The cut on Klitschko's eye did not appear magically. Lewis put it there.
Let's not forget that the 'great' Klitschko quit against Chris Byrd.
Had this fight gone longer, Klitschko would have been stopped or quit again.
*additional*
Black Panther - I know we're discussing Klitschko vs. Lewis, but it's not insignificant that he quit against Byrd.
I'm no huge fan of Lewis, either, and I agree with your assessment of what would have happened to him against Tyson in the 80's, however, once Lewis opened the cut, he pinpointed it and kept making it bigger until the fight was stopped. It was boxing strategy, and it won him the fight legitimately.

agree.....Vitali was mauling him in that fight.....Lennox's subsequent retirement left a bad taste in my mouth....HE SHOULD NEVER BE COMPARED WITH GREATS.
