Hi, A cat D writeoff means that the car has been damaged, usually a minor accident and still driveable, but the cost of repairing it would be more than the vehicle is worth.

ie. a rear end shunt requiring a new tailgate and associated parts would be too much in new spares cost being repaired in a dealership, but could easily be carried out in a body repair shop using donor parts from a scrapped vehicle.

Generally this would be quite acceptable and perfectly safe, but it is always worth while having an independent check carried out.

If the car is currently MOT'd and has had previous tests after the repair date you should be ok, however I suggest you negotiate the purchase price bearing in mind the previous repairs.

it means the car has had some damage to it,the cat d normally indicates the level of damage its had. allot of people buy them still and they are totally sound. first of all you will want proof that it has been repaired by a reputable garage and not some diy merchant. if it has all proof with it and it suits you then it might be worth a look. you must inform your insurance co about what you know about it, also bear in mind when you come to sell it you wont get as much for it if you inform the buyer.

It means your car is road worthy, but no main dealer will allow you to put it in for a part exchange.
All main dealers do a data check on all cars what they bye in .

It means the car can not be sold by a main dealer, and that it can not be put on a finance plan.

Only buy it if it is very very cheap
