"Fly Biting" or "Fly Snapping" is believed to be a type of siezure disorder in dogs. I'd check with your vet for a confirming diagnosis and possible treatment. Since epilepsy and other siezure disorders can be hereditary, please be sure to spay your pet so the condition cannot be passed on to her puppies.

Where did you get her from? It's a condition called "fly snapping" and it usually occurs with a dog that is locked up with no stimulation for a very long time. When she does it you should distract her with a chew toy, or a small session of practicing the commands you have taught her, or get the leash and take her for a walk...hopefully it will stop. If it continues or gets worse (like she actually tires herself doing it so much) take her to the vet...it's an obsessive compulsive behaviour.

It depends upon whether the dog seems to be doing that to help some feeling she has in her throat or neck. Or is she just wanting someone to play with her.
My 9 yr. old Scottie, demands something from me by looking at me and snapping his teeth together. He can mean anything from let's play to feed me. It gets my attention so he uses that to get me to do something for him. He started it at a young age.
So maybe there is some purpose to what she is doing. The first few times he did it I thought that he was indicating that he wanted to bite me so it freaked me out. I tried scolding him out of it, but he would still do it. Finally I learned what it was about.
Now we communicate beautifully.
Best of luck,

yeah, that's weird. But my sister's dog sits and stars at the wall in their den because once my brother in law was sitting at the computer and sunlight was striking his watch and reflecting on that wall and the dog kept trying to bite the reflection. He just sits there alot now, waiting for the reflection to come back.
Some dogs are just weird.

She might just be seeing a ghost. It's a pretty common occurrence. A lot of dogs like to bark at nothing. You may even notice their eyes following something around the room that you cannot see. They're much more sensitive to whats going on around them than we are.

This is not normal behavior. It sounds like she may be gasping for air. I certainly would at least give the vet a call.

My dog does that when there are bugs flying around. My cats like to entertain me with their impressive jumping ability when they see a bug flying around.
