I believe in God because He is continuously active in my life. I was converted 36 years ago, after I had turned my back on God. Although I was raised Catholic, I had rejected God, but in His mercy, one day when I was at my lowest, He came and spoke a simple word into my heart: "Maybe Jesus really did die for your sins."
Faith came, and I felt a flood of love and light and forgiveness and peace wash away the hate and hopelessness and darkness that filled my soul. I later discovered this was what was recorded in the Third Chapter of John's Gospel, where Jesus spoke about being "born again". That is what happened to me that day - I was born again. I have been walking in the light of that truth ever since.

First, you have to define the term "God." The problem with most theists is that this term is a moving target.

In addition, because there is no evidence either for or against the existence of God, you cannot use deductive logic (a+b=c; therefore c-b=a). You can only reach a conclusion by inductive reasoning using the balance of evidence (90% of A is also B; C is B, so the chances are 90% that C is also A).

I will assert (and others may shoot this down) that the only RELEVANT definition of God states that he intervenes to circumvent natural laws.

If God circumvents natural laws, then it is impossible to understand natural laws. All scientific findings would have to include the stipulation, "it is also possible that these results are an act of God, a miracle, thereby making our research meaningless."

However, since we have been able to expand our knowledge of natural laws (evidenced by every appliance in your kitchen), the scientific method works in this discovery. And the likely conclusion is that God, at least the intervening kind, does not exist.

Additionally, if God is defined as all loving, all powerful, and all knowing, then it is impossible to explain suffering. Either God is not all loving (he acts sadistically), not all powerful (he cannot prevent suffering), or not all knowing (he created suffering by mistake because he didn't know the consequences of his actions).

If God is less than these and/or does not intervene in our existence, then he is either non-existent or irrelevant. The classic argument is that I cannot prove that a china teapot is orbiting the sun directly across from the earth's orbit. But while I cannot prove this is not true, the evidence against it is compelling.

The evidence against God is equally compelling, and while it is not possible to prove beyond any doubt, it makes more sense to live your life as if there were not God.

It is more compelling to me that humans have invented God to help people deal with the realities of death and grief, and to reflect the thoughts of the ruling powers in a particular time. Because humans are always looking for reasons, when none are found, it was the natural inclination to declare the cause to be "God" (or gods). As the faith grew, miracles and laws have been ascribed to this Divinity, and an orthodoxy grows up around it.

Successful religions over the long run also are accompanied by some level of economic well-being to the populace. Unsuccessful ones are seen as false because they don't lead to improved lives.

Now it seems unhelpful to believe in such superstition. The only matters that aid in our ongoing well being are work, location, health, sustenance, and pure, blind luck.

So no, I don't believe God exists. And you know what? It's okay if anyone else does believe God exists.

First of all NO There is NO GOD!!

Why do I say that??
There is not one single case in all of human history of this God ever doing a thing! This God has not helped one old lady across the street, fed one starving child, stop one religious nut of killing someone just because they think differently, has not stoped one single act of terrorism!

I am not against what doesn't exist however I am against the use of this fantasy to justify abuse to women, children, people of different race, religions.
I am also against people trying to use a non existant God or a long since DEAD historical figure (JESUS) to try and somehow negate their personal responcibility for their actions!

It is time we as a secioty grow up and put away this childish notion of a God! Children stop believing in Satan Claus and the Tooth Fairy sooner or later! WHY MUST THIS GOD FANTASY CONTINUE ALL THROUGH LIFE?????

Yes, Why, it is simple, most people who do choose to believe are always looking at the better side of things. Always happy and do the right thing. It is better to believe in something than in nothing, why believe in a void or nothingness when you die? Or you can believe in something thats great wonderful perfect and endless in time after death. Though when you take the challenge, you step on His ball field and He makes the rules, and you abid by them for the rest of your life, which isnt that long if you think about it.

No, I lack belief in the existence of any and all gods.

You're confused; atheism isn't about being "against god". If one is an atheist then one is of the position that no gods exist to be opposed.

I do believe in God. And my reasoning is that everything here, the world, people, EVERYTHING must have come from somewhere. So I do believe that there is a GOD. I do NOT practice any religion as I believe that most if not all churches are just a way to take your money. They do NOT practice what they preach.

Yes!
I've heard his voice, in my head, tell me he had great plans for me. This was after I prayed for death. I prayed when my child was very sick, dad had died, my life was awful to say the least. I heard him.

I was warned once to slow down in my car, if i had not I would have been in a awful crash. I've read the bible and it speaks to me.
I've had many prayers answered. I've read about how accurate the bible is, I've read non christian documents that tell about Jesus and his disciples.
I know Jesus is real, I know there is a God and I know he loves me.
I don't believe in evolution and I have a science degree.
There's just too much evidence that Jesus is the way the truth and the life.
