how old is your golden? is she a puppy or is she fully grown? and how much is "alot"? if it's usually when she eats, it could be because she's eating too fast. you can try to slow down her eating by switching to dry dog food (if you have her on canned) or if she's already on dry food, maybe you can switch to a type of dry food that has bigger pieces - that'll force her to chew the food and will make her eat more slowly. Hill's Science Diet T/D is good for that, it's a diet meant for a lot of tartar on the teeth, but it works because the pieces are much larger. a disadvantage of T/D, however, is that it has a higher fat content, so you'd probably have to cut back on the amount of food you give her per day. if she's gagging more frequently, it could be related to excitement, or it might (in an extreme case) be related to an innervation disorder - maybe she has damaged glossopharyngeal or vagus nerves. but like i said - those are in more extreme cases. if it's been going on for a while and it affects her behavior and health (body condition, eating/drinking, defecating/urinating), i would take her to the vet to get her checked up.

My pug Molly gags, however she has a collasping trachea and it accompanied by a sound that sounds like a goose. She ususally gags when she has sinitis which she gets in the winter.

I would recommend you take your dog to the vet to get things checked out.

If you can, open her mouth and see if you can see anything that may be stuck in there. Dogs obviously have no hands and they tend to feel things with their mouth. She may have gotten something stuck.

If you can't see anything, you may want to consider having a vet take a look. It could be further down the throat where you wouldn't be able to see.

i would take her to the vet, sometimes it is nothing however there are other things that can cause gagging or things that look like gagging (like heart problems)

Heartworms, heart failure, and blastomycosis are all things that come to mind when considering some of the more serious causes of such gagging. Please have your dog checked by your vet!
