Does anyone know any bartending courses online that provide you with a real bartending license not just a certificate. And how hard is it for an 18 year old girl to find a bartending job in NYC? (some experience)

Don't listen to these folks that bash bartending schools. Probably failed. Bartending is not a job you just get like that. Take a course and learn. Not only how to make drinks, what goes with what, what can be used in it's place, product knowledge and the tricks of the trade. Getting a licence is rather important. When seeking work, you are always asked for two things, licence and experience. If you say no to experience but have a licence, you've got a shot, if you say no to both, you're resume is nothing more than kindling in the next camp fire the manager has.

As for finding work in the big apple. You're a young woman. You've got that to your advantage. An 18 year old dude wouldn't be able to pull it off. However, New York is a MAJOR tourist attraction. The whole bloody island is packed of people from all over the world. Especially people with high expectations to their drinks. It'll be hard but as I said, being a young woman, you'll find something I'm sure. As stated earlier on, get your licence, that and your pretty little 18 year old face will get you a job.

Good luck puppy.

Bartending License Online

Definitely! The explanation is spot on. Online training is really different with those of hands-on, of course. But training online has it's benefits and is probably for those people who are so busy and want to take the course on their preferred time and place. (You can get a certification http://www.learn2serve.com/new-york-alcohol-server-certification )

Besides, being a bartender isn't just mixing cocktails and getting through your shift. If you have a certification / license that means that you know how to handle customers (especially those that are already drunk), checking id's, alcohol safety, customer service etc.

It depends on how you do in the interview. There's a tip here http://brokelyn.com/tips-of-the-trade-how-to-get-a-bartending-job-in-nyc/

yes but as a bartender I suggest hands on learning. That is the best way. You have a bartenders guide if you need it and customers are willing to tell you how to make a drink you do not know. My boss will only hire people that have not gone to school. There are many schools out there that is a better idea than on line.

Probably, but i dont know how serious a potential job will take it. Its not like you would have hands on expierience.

can 18 year olds get bartending jobs up there? I know here, you have to be 21. But its different all over i guess.

Most states don't require bartenders to be licensed. Bartending classes anywhere are laughed at in the real world. Get a job as a barback and let them know you want to eventually bartend, so you are willing to learn all about the job. A put all of your energy into it. Good luck!
