Since you obviously are a web user, start there. When we needed to find a church home, I searched under churches in my hometown, and you will find many have websites. Look at the pics, read the bios of the ministers, etc.
Key things to look at:
Statement of faith (ie 'what we believe', etc.) If they don't say it, it may be weird.
Outreach
Then just strike out and visit SEVERAL. By going Sun a.m. sun p.m. and midweek services, you can hit 2 or 3 a week.
MOST important: Pray for God to lead you to the right place. HE will.

Spend some time reading the bible and pick out several different churches in the area. Talk to friends to try and limit it down if there are alot and go to each one a couple weeks and see if:
* in this order
1) They are actually teaching the bible carefully,
2) The style matches your own... some Churches rock and some are very old fashioned and conservative.
3) The people you meet are friendly. Too many Christians and churches are only 1 hour per week Christians as soon as the service is over watch out you'll get flattened in the parking lot.
You can check out some online resources in my source list.

First of all I don't think that it matters what denomination you choose. But you should find one that has core beliefs very similar to yours. Also find one where you feel comfortable and you can learn and praise God how you want.
On terms of missions find some that are in your area and then just get info and differant missions around the world. I love Ecuador. I have been there on 3 missions trips in the last 5 years, but you may like something else. There are many organizations you can go through and just wiegh your options.

YWAM is a great organization for that.
Youth With a Mission, world-wide.
Many protestant churches support YWAM.
Join any church you like.
There are many that have a variety of activities for fellowship and teaching.
If you have christian friends, and they seem to have interesting churches, try theirs.
Some are noisy, with rock worship and dynamic youth and adult pastors.
Some are quiet, with traditional hymn style worship and traditional pulpit teaching.
And everything in between.
Just what-ever suits your preference.
But stay away from the cults.

That should depend on your beliefs first. Find out what times services start and start attending a different church each week until you find one you're comfortable with and offers what you want/need.

sounds pentecostal to me....
once you're saved, then head to a church you feel God is leading you to. But if God has called you to evangelize in other countries, you might have to jump from chrurch to church. But on the bright side, you get to fellowship more!

Look into Jehovah's Witnesses www.watchtower.org . In addition to being a Bible-based religion, all of our congregations can be identified by their brotherly love.
We have a missionary program, if you are bi-lingual, you can be sent to some amazing places.

I like the "Christian Church". It follows the bible closely and does not trust man's traditions over the bible.
Look in your phone book under Church and look for Christian church.
We support many missionaries and could lead you.
God bless,
