i've been watching those two groups go at it for awhile and it occured to me that becoming a spiritual entity seems a bit like evolution to me

The changes take place during this life. You grow in your Christianity here and that same thing just continues on the other side. So evolution (as change) goes on everyday. Evolution (as changing into a completely different species) doesn't happen - not in the natural and not in the spiritual. When we step into heaven we will still be what we were here.

Possibly, but mostly if you think of evolution in the Pokemon sense of the word.

It's "ascent" I think. And considering there is no heaven and no god, I wouldn't think so.
