Well, that depends on if you are spelling the word correctly (or, no offense, how you are misspelling it).
In French, "goodbye" is indeed "adieu."
But in Portuguese, "goodbye" is "adeus."
So... it could be either.

Or, it could be the correct spelling and be in Catalan (a Romance language spoken in the Northeast of Spain).
In Catalan, "goodbye" is "adeu."

Sounds like Catalan to me!!

It is Catalan and it means the same thing as the French "Adieu," which is much more common in modern speech and literature.

"Adieu" means "unto God," and it is a ceremonial way of bidding a person goodbye. Now that few Europeans believe that God exists or is a significant factor in life, it has become a casual expression equivalent to "see ya!"

"Dieu" in French is equivalent to "Deus" in Latin, "Theos" in Greek, or "Elohim" in Hebrew. All of those mean "God" in the sense of "ruler of the universe."

Adieu is French for farewell or goodbye, though it isn't used often in regular language.

I think you mean ADIEU, which the French use to say something like Farewell!

"Adieu" means goodbye in French. ("A" meaning to and "dieu" meaning god)
It is something that you say when you do not expect to see the person for a very long time (sometimes never again). "Au revoir" is the term that you use when it's a temporary goodbye.
