My mom works in a library and she told me all this before

She has been working at the library for 7 years.
She is a childrens librarian.
In a typical day, she helps kids find books.. She reads stories to kids in story hour. She helps and keeps track of kids who want to use the computers. She also orders more books for the childrens department.

Her favorite part of the day is telling stories to kids.
Her least favorite part of the day is putting books back on the shelves. (she only does that sometimes).

She used to be an elementary school teacher and got tired of that and decided to do this instead.

She did not have any library training. Only her Masters and BS in ELementary Education.

i worked in a library 11 years
i was circulation manager
i tried to keep up with 6000 people coming into a very busy university library and all the fun of checking out and shelving books
i liked working with college kids -- i hated working with librarians.
they throw knives the second your back is turned. the stereotype of librarians is WAY too accurate. they refused to hire a director that was capable because they thought he was "too attractive" and that could cause problems. like i said i don't get them. i could go on with stories from around the country for days. there is a librarian at harvard with numerous degrees and she has been passed up for promotion something like 16 times because they view her as a "party girl". she is 40! i could give you dozens of other horror stories. most of them despise their profession and despise themselves. its a horrible field to work in unless you get in a small public branch with a great director -- i have a friend that does that and loves it -- he only works with very few people and the director demands her library be kept for the patrons and politics free.
i landed a job in a library at the college i went to -- gained libarary experience and that led to a better paying paraprofessional job (i am not a librarian -- no mla or mls).
i have 2 bas -- one in geography one in economics
