Automatic Antenna Problem..?

Question

I own a 96 toyota camry
4cyl 2.2l
aftermarket front+rear speakers
aftermarket Dual cd player+radio
automatic antenna

Ok, i installed my aftermarket dash radio right..
now i know, you tend to lose sum reception w/ aftermarket radios..
but i cant hear CRAP when i try to listen to AM stations..

i can hear the radio station i selected... and i hear like 3 other stations coming in and out... and static ontop of that....
its not really easy to hear wtf is going on..

When i installed my aftermarket radio i connected a power wire to a wire that is supposed to power the rear antenna.
yes the antenna goes up and down
i can hear FM stations.. a bit fuzy.. but not much more then expected when you install an aftermarket radio.

any1 know why my AM wont work? anything i can replace/add?

all i can say is possibly a bad connection to the antenna power wire behind the deck.
